These both relate to psychology.

An ideology is a belief that has been indoctrinated to such an extent that you no longer have the ability to decide that you want to stop believing. Often, ideologies cannot even be percieved outright. Ideologies are valuable however because they constrain meaning and allow us to manipulate, use, and feel it. A spook is like a dead ideology.

A spook is an interesting idea. But it makes sense. People are hard wired to be social creatures. This is why classical urges like seeking pride, self esteem, social status, joy, etc, are classically good. However, these classically good urges within the contexts of a society or culture that doesn't reward them, makes them these strange, unfounded alienating ideas that cannot be verifiable as valuable. In these broken situations, such classical, biological urges become spooks. They're like the fucking dead, wandering souls of virtue.

In other words, a spook is an ideology that lacks a societal or cultural home.
