Iran is more in line with what Guenon advocated for but for the wrong reasons. They're Shia and Guenon thought Shi'ism had no esoteric metaphysics.

Guenon is cool but his tunnel vision prevented him from seeing a lot of things. Sufism is mostly considered kuffar shit in Sunni countries at this point, and they are just as materialist as the west. Post-Baathist Sunni Islam is just a cope against western imperialism, ineffective and not a traditional society in the sense Guenon envisioned it.

I come from a Muslim background in a country with a long history of Sufism (hint: Guenon moved there). None of them take Sufism seriously, even if they don't hate it. It's irrelevant. I'm not implying that terrorism is the norm in Muslim countries, only that Sufism is irrelevant and Guenon is wrong about the exoteric/esoteric distinction. He was simply high on opium.

/lit/ do you ever find yourself being deeply moved by poetry?

I like some poetry, but at most I think "oh that's pretty prose" or "hm, that made me think". I never feel strongly emotionally touched by it, not in the way good music or books can.
Am I reading all the wrong things or is poetry just weaker when it comes to awakening strong emotions?
