Well OP, if you want sword and sorcery (very light, action oriented fantasy) try The Elric, Lahnkmar, Conan or Kane Sagas. They're fun and easy but the quality is inconsistent.

Neil Gaiman is also good light reading.

If you want fantasy that's a little more "literary", try anything by Borges, The Book of the New Sun or the Gormenghast trilogy.

As for Sci Fi, i only know Phillip K. Dick, but check out Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, The Man in The High Castle or Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said.

I'm finishing up the book i'm reading within the next week and PKD has been built up from people I know for a while. So I'm told I'm going to be hooked as soon as I read anything from him but no one can suggest which one of his works to start with. So I decided to turn to the scholars of /lit/.

tl;dr which PKD book do you recommend first?

Pretty good.

So far i think: Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said > Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep > The Man in the High Castle

But i enjoyed each one.

Is there anything else i should read by him? He has so many novels. I imagine most are shit.

I've recently got quite into him and read Do Androids..? and UBIK, and I've started A Scanner Darkly. UBIK is my favorite of the two I've read - it's probably one of the most effective horror books I've read just for the persistent, lingering sense of dread and powerlessness it creates.

I'm not sure where to post this. It is about using a dead author intellectual property. Philip K. Dick died before I was even born. Can I use any part of his work with commercial purposes? How can I know if anyone holds the copyright? I know he married several times but I don't know if he had any kids, or if maybe his publisher or any of the wives can actually retain copyright for his work.

I'd check out Philip K. Dick if you can, I love a lot of his short stories and novels.
