The Sun Also Rises. I truly wanted to enjoy my first crack at Hemingway, but after getting 110 pages in and having had absolutely no interest in Lady Brett Ashley's borderline prostitution, as well as the main cast of characters bitching and moaning about their ennui over glasses of absinthe, I just about had it by that point; the story had fundamentally no development beyond this, and frankly I found the characters so narcissistic and unengaging that I frankly could not care at all about where their hijinks would take the plot.

I genuinely want to try other Hemingway novels and not let this one bad book leave me with sour grapes though, so I intend to pick up another one of his novels at a different point. Still, this was one of the few times I was genuinely disappointed by a book I was hoping to like.

This book is a fuckin great dissection of masculinity. The most secure character is the guy with no fucking dick.

Today I finished The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway. And I didn't get one important thing.
The main character... Jake... is he dickless? He lost his cock at War?
And the ending... That woman... Bret... She cant be with him because... he has no member?

Well, my Steinbeck thread was not exactly meet with great enthusiasm, so we shall try Hemingway. I have read The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea, A Moveable Feast, The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories, and To Have and Have Not. I have also bought The Green Hills of Africa, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Men Without Women and Winner Take Nothing. What else from him should I pick up?
