What the fuck is this book's problem? I just finished it last night thinking I'd enjoy it more as an adult than I did as a kid, but it's still a fucking slog. Can't tell if it needs more pages or less, or just a rewrite as a whole. I'm convinced HBP was received way better thanks to the extra year in the oven thanks to JK's bun in her oven.

:
I don't understand why everyone thought Harry should've been prefect nor do I understand why Ron was prefect. Not that I know anything about boarding schools or how prefects are chosen, but there must be an academics qualification and behavior is definitely taken into account. Neither Harry nor Ron had the academics (nor the behavior for that matter) to be prefects. Neville was probably too incompetent at the time to be prefect while Seamus's mother didn't even want him to return to school, so that leaves Dean Thomas. He should've been prefect instead of Ron or Harry.

Why is this one so boring?

Hi, /lit/
I'm working on a novel and I'm struggling to write convincing comfy, cozy scenes. Could you point me towards some books with that sort of atmosphere, i.e. pic related? The more gothic, the better.

Is this the best one in the series?

24. I'm reading the series all over again since it's a comfort book of sorts, the last time I've read it was back in my teens, and I never got to read Deathly Hollows in full. I'm honestly enjoying it, but the fact that I've gotten past the point of fun magical adventures and into the "everyone's dying left and right" zone is a bit saddening. I do appreciate the writing, the emotions and Hagrid much more than I did as a kid. This man is a legend.
