I have a pet theory that a lot of misery and depression which people feel comes as a result of instilling romantic ideals in children at a young age and them being disappointed when they grow older once they learn that most of society does not truly value these ideals.

So Romanticism was largely an artistic movement, but did it leave any important remains in non-fiction? For example history? Or also philosophy, science, etc. Or geography? Can we call Grimm's work in linguistics "Romantic"? Interested in your most obscure and insightful suggestions.

What triggered Romanticism? This fascinates me.

It's almost as if humans collectively decided to become human at a single point in history. Nearly all of literature before Thomas Gray's Elegy is completely devoid of a soul to me. Is this because people refused to acknowledge their place in the universe? Or do we just have our own biased modern conception of what it means to be human?

What makes the human form sacred? There are those dumber than creatures, uglier and crude. Would it not be our best interest to advocate a separation from all with IQ under 120, the short and ugly, the unmotivated and lazy, the mentally sick; is it not cruel to have these lesser men continue breeding with us and themselves unto ever more suffering? We will never evolve beyond (overcome man) with them chained to our feet.
