you have to write something that finishes in finding peace... meaning that you will have to include in your novel the idea of an ideal world (the ideal world of the character... ultimately your idea of an ideal world), what led to him forming that idea (as you said, disappointment that his parents are retarded), and how he fights to attain it (here is where your creativity comes into play)
and try not to have it longer than 250 pages...
