I'm one book away from this. Last time I asked /lit/ about it a lot of people said it was a fantastic read. Should I have high expectations?

Ok fellas here’s the deal. I’ve read a lot of history books and want to read fiction for once. Currently I’ve read 1 to 4 of the dune series, and while I throughly enjoy them I want a (short) break from the franchise. So can I please get some fiction novels recommended to me? I’ll read any genre other than YA novels. Pic rel. Is my favourite instalment atm

Why are the nu paperback covers so sovless?

no story, all memes. relies on characters of the past and develops no interesting new new characters (same with heretics and chapterhouse). How is this good? I can find nobody being critical of it other than homos talking about homophobic bits. It's one of the books that everyone just assumes its great because of pop culture references and memes. The Golden Path doesn't even finish it's arc, so why is it such a good thing? Why should I, as a reader, care about Leto castrating humanity for no purpose that bares fruit? Even if Herbert lived to finish the golden path arc, I don't see how it could be satisfying? This book is just an old, dying writer, wanting to write about philosophy, but the only result is a book written by someone who really loves listening to himself talk.

Just finished this good book. Lots to think about now, hmm...

Finally got through God Emperor. I might need some more time to think, but coming off of it immediately I didn't really like it. Leto is kind of insufferable and a lot of the philosophy that makes up most of this book feels kind of half baked. I'll probably pick up Heretics at some point but I think I need a break from Dune for now.
