What was the main theme/idea/lesson of this book? Don’t abandon your son so he doesn’t become lost in a metaphorical labryinth and some old guy writes a movie review that ends up being a metaphor for his situation?

Why do people love this book so much? I see how it's a good story, yeah, but it's so rambly and confusing. What's the deal with the page formats on 119-145? Why is there so much empty space on the later pages? Why are the pages burned in some places? What was the deal with Zampano tearing up a shit ton on the Jacob/Esau parts? I know people adore it, but I'm getting bored of all this bullshit. Of course I don't want everything spoiled, but just some general hints to keep me going, and things I've already read I might not've picked up on.

My main theory for the book's theme is that it's obsession. Johnny is getting obsessed with Zampano's writings just how we are obsessed with Johnny's. IDK if that's right, but it's the best I got so far.
I'm at page 328, edition picrelated, just after the pages start getting burned, so no major spoilers past that part if you can help it

hi /lit/, after having not read for quite some time I decided to sit down and read something that I've been told was pretty "challenging". I just finished up House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski, and I loved it. I checked the sticky to see if it was on the recommended reading list, and it's under postmodernist literature. I want to check out some more postmodernist stuff. given that I enjoyed House of Leaves, what would be a good next pick?

Just finished this and didn't enjoy it as much as I was hoping I would. Is there more to it?

I liked the creative ways it used text and found the explorations very intense and nerve wracking, but it just seemed very convoluted to me with trying to understand what was true and not true from the editors. Is that what people enjoy about this book? The puzzle? Or am I just a brainlet?

Looking for some good surreal horror.
