Reducing books to fashion objects like tattoos or stretch earrings would cheapen their symbolic value as an intellectual commodity.

Instead, they would function as a cheap accessories; either never being read at all or being read for the wrong reasons and thus improperly.

Reading would cease to be taken seriously and would lose its position as separate from, and critical of, the moronic collectivism of fashion and popular culture.

In your attempt to democratise literature you are willing to sacrifice the fundamental meaning and significance of the thing itself.
