Isn't it easy for figures like Jesus and Diogenes to renounce almost all comfort when they lived in beautiful warm climates?
Imagine if they lived in Russia or somewhere very cold, they wouldn't last a night in the winter.

There is no real evidence for the life of Jesus outside the New Testament. Even the Evangelists did not bother to collect the kind of material that we should call historical or biographical evidence.
Primitive Christians wanting evidence were told to read the "Scriptures," meaning the Old Testament. The "Scriptures" did not then exist in so fixed a form, and one or two allusions in the New Testament that seem to be to the Old Testament cannot be traced, but the general procedure is unaffected by this.

The New Testament insists a great deal on what it calls faith and truth, but its guarantees for such things seems very strange, even when we have understood something of the principle involved.

How do we know that the Gospel story is true? Because it confirms the prophecies of the Old Testament. But how do we know that the Old Testament prophecies are true? Because they are confirmed by the Gospel story.

Evidence, so called, is bounced back and forth between the testaments like a tennis ball; and no other evidence is given us.
The two testaments form a double mirror, each reflecting the other but neither the world outside.

Who do Atheists have to look up to as a guide, if not God?
