It's part of this whole new, mostly American sort of anti-counterculture when counterculture has become accepted. It's especially vocal on the internet. Being an engineer and making 300k starting and being an upstanding citizen is the new edgy. You do this whole sensible neo-americandream thing and posture in a way that puts down non-conformism as being a tired old useless cliché for kids. In our decadent world being wholesome in a sort of commonsensical way is the new edgy and puts you in the position of dismissing deviations from this path as merely attention seeking and naivety. These are the kind of people calling other people their own age 'kid' and 'son' on image boards in a condescending manner. They can't handle the po-mo and look towards traditionalism as an answer. In a very moderate way though, since actual reactionarism is too edgy. They're usually people in their early twenties who regard transgression as a passing phase in general because it was so in their own case and regard being 'edgy' beyond puberty as a shortcoming.
