So, I'm five chapters into this and I just have to ask... when does this get good? I hate these characters and the way everything every character says has to be some gigantic fucking monologue about the importance of beauty or some stupid shit is really getting annoying. They're all assholes.

Is it worth it to keep going?

This piece of shit.

The prose is ridiculously pretentious and longwinded, and it all reads like a bunch of posh monocled brits wanking each other off.
Pointless.

Would Oscar Wilde consider this book to be art? I'm about half-way through and I feel like I'm missing something here.

So I just finished this book. What's the hidden meaning about it? Was it that society was the one that influenced him? The painting surely could not actually chance. He must of been hallucination when he saw it, an image of what he thought he was.

So I studied 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' in my English AP class years ago. It's been my favourite book to date. Studying it with my awesome teacher made me love it more, because she showed me some of the deep symbolism in the book.

But talking to my brother the other day he said the book is also full of humour. I never really saw the humour when I read it.

I'm thinking about reading it again now, so other than humour, what else should I be looking for in this book (that I may have missed the one time I read it when I was 18)? I'm not hugely smart with literature and usually need direction.
