how did this place get even stupider?

i want to get good at chess so i go on chess.com to play chess and i select 'new to chess' because im new to chess but the people i play against clearly aren't new to chess
i suspect they would be better off in the 'beginner' category but they select the 'new to chess' because they know they're probably going to win
i don't want to win i want to get good at chess but i don't enjoy playing on the back foot the whole time so i don't play and i don't get better
why is humanity like this?
