Your definition (or the lack thereof) reminds me of sex; or, to get some terminology more straight, to love-making.

Now comparing the two acts, they seem very opposed. However, it's interesting that they both show some critical coincidental points. First, they both appear as vital to a society's perpetuate, but chastised or lamented often still (modernity non-withstanding). The second is that, while they are opposite in terms of scope, they also present two opposites which has the other's scope--the duel and the orgy. Furthermore, the orgy has the same apparent hope of unending expansion as war. The duel very often linked to romance and the act of love making, and both typically mean the bare minimum number of parts required to be conducted. The orgy also appears close to war, and often precedes it, joins it, or even follows it in the form of population booms.
