Pic-related is what I read as a pre-teen, so I'll consider it kid's literature (even though there are lewd moments).

I had the first 1-2 of these, I remember absolutely nothing about them but the covers were dope as hell.

Maybe the first 30 or so, but that series went off the rails quick.

You could put most genre fiction in this category.

One of the first books I ever really loved, and I still enjoy reading it in the bath.

Xanth is pretty pulpy, but the word play is fun.

ie. Blades of grass are little green swords on the ground. A pumpkin is a plant that pumps itself up with air. Rocs (the giant birds) like rock gardens and rock music. And so on.

I'd recommend the first four books. Things fall off afterwards. It never takes itself seriously, and doesn't expect you to either..

Is anyone a better writer when they are drunk?

I almost always drink a glass or two of hard liquor before I start my writing, and I feel like it's easier to spill my guts out without second-thinking myself. Of course there are "drunk ramblings" that I cut out in editing, but overall I think it's effective.

Let's jerk this circle.

What book has the best 'Hero's Journey'?

I'm already familiar with the tropes and just want something fun to read.

Are there any other series like this, where the entire world is built on puns? (Blades of grass are miniature swords that grow out of the ground, Nightmares are horses that come give you bad dreams, etc.)
