What the hell does this mean, literally? What does it mean for the round of a lathe to gain the breath of a hair? What does it gain? And how is this thing that was gained being distributed back over the whole curve? What does "back over the whole curve" mean? And why "never an instant true"? This quote makes me think of asymptotes in mathematics, but it's being expressed in such an odd and infuriating way that I can't really understand anything.
