Hard to tell, curious as well. We do know Amano pulled a lot of influence from it for sure though. You can see in Angel's Egg; I don't know how much it influenced him with the FF series, but I'd imagine a bit at the least.

I mean their character design is kinda similar but they have completely different personalities and stories. Plus the japanese edition of BotNS was done by Anno so Miura would've been more familiar with bishie Severvian.

1 In the Ziggurat, when Severian encounters the Old Leech, the guy provides an unsolicited denial that he engages in pederasty with his young assistant, Mamas. This denial convinces Severian with certainty that pederasty is indeed going on. Whence comes this certainty?

2 In the Pelerines lazaret, Severian is told of pederasty between younger and older soldiers. He starts to denounce this practice until the Pelerine tells him they do not frown upon it. Wolfe has some purpose in including this in the conversation. Perhaps just an ancient Greek army reference but perhaps also Severian's own feelings are being called into question.

3 In Baldander's castle, Severian encounters a giant baby catamite (boy sex toy). Typhon mentions pederasty to Severian in his plans for future rule. Severian often goes back and ruminates over various things from his adventures but he doesn't ever mention these incidents again.

4 Severian himself offers us an unsolicited denial of pederasty with Little Severian. Paired with the proof of guilt Severian finds from the Old Leech's unsolicited denial, what are we supposed to make of this? At the least it is proof that pederasty is something Severian thinks about from time to time.

5 Severian is not shy about discussing his adult sexual exploits with women. But his sexuality seems to first blossom at age 20, after he meets Thecla and he is taken to the brothel. The largely teen apprentice boys are described as pummelling each other to establish dominance but no mention of homosexual activitiy is mentioned. In light of the pederasty mentioned in rest of the story, mention of it among the Torturers is conspicuously absent, though we know such activity is common in isolated, all-boy settings.

6 As a small boy, Severian is sent to the Witches' Tower. He is chosen because he is pre-pubescent and the older torturers seem to fear the Witches' wild feminine sexuality. Also, Master Gurloes keeps an iron phallus handy in case he is called to sexually abuse a female torture client and he can't achieve an erection. This prevailing fear of female sexuality makes homosexuality and pederasty seem even more likely among the torturers.

None of these 6 points proves a pedophilic aspect to Severian's sexuality. But together I think they constitute a suggestion of it.

True facts, but I'm still not sure about Amano-san's decision to cast different FF6 characters as Severian.

Considering he did the covers for Book of the New Sun series that might be a start.

They kept them across all translations too, including my editions. The French editions are quite similar, but the Japs did them... weird. I still like them tho

I don't think it would work. And I don't think that's the actual cover, there is a Japanese New Sun which actually looks pretty great.

Are there any good websites to buy books from other parts of the world? Some places get rad cover art on their books, and I have the urge to own them.

eBay is pretty unreliable for this sort of thing. Hard to find shit.
