Is your favorite author unjustly slandered?

It's hysterically funny - as long as it is already, I could probably read another few hundred pages of the father's interminable tirades after Ferdinand fucks up even the most minor task yet again. I'll never understand assessments of Céline as a sadsack or of this book as thoroughly depressing given that practically ever page bears witness to a comedic imagination triumphing over the sordid. At the same time it's probably his most poignant novel, so much of it being fixated on the passage of a way of life, of craftsmanship and quotidian idiosyncrasies yielding to industry and standardization, and the sudden realization that you've grown older, that people who once occupied a considerable place in your life are gone and you'll never know what happened to them, that maybe one day the world will have changed so much that to explain yourself will be a lost cause. Ultimately no reason to skip it if you liked Journey.

I'm currently halfway through Journey and highly interested in Céline, so I wanted to know how does the rest of his works compare to these two.
