What does it mean to "let the prose wash over you"?

Do you engage in this style of reading?

How do I go about reading Of Grammatology, Hegel, and Schopenhauer?

I have a minor in philosophy so I'm not totally new, but my understanding is that you need a very solid background before you can read Derrida's Of Grammatology, Hegel's Phenomenology, and Schopenhauer's Will and Representation.

Grammatology is my main goal right now. Can anyone come up with an unironic list to help me out here?

Is a difficult novel just a series of koans, or is it one long koan? What happens to the mind and the brain when a koan or multiple koans are uploaded? Neuroplasticity? Growth, emotional and/or spiritual? Does reading difficult novels /do/ something to us? If so, what? More importantly, do difficult novels get easier the more you read them? If so, why?
