[ERROR]

As our world becomes more complex, more specialized knowledge is required, and since one cannot have specialized knowledge of all fields, and some fields not requiring any specialized knowledge due to the advancements of, sometimes seemingly unrelated, fields, there is an incentive for offloading tasks that are not within one’s field(s) of specialization to machines or others. An example of such offloading is finding one’s way. It used to be the case that knowing approximately where two places were in relation to one another was quite important for finding a route between two places on a map. Now such knowledge has been offloaded to a digital map-service. All that is required for finding ones way is knowing the name of your destination, and being able to follow directions.
Of course with the advent of the complexity of our world and the continuous offloading of information to each-other and to machines, the possibility for further specialization within ones fields presents itself. Taking such specialization to the extreme, will lead to most people only knowing what is within their field(s) of specialization. As people specialize more and more in these fields, there will be more of the field to specialize in. As such it will take longer to specialize in a field and be more demanding, mentally, to be able to rightfully call oneself “specialized” and keep up with the evolving field(s) of specialization. This will lead people down narrower and narrower paths in life. As with everything there will be subdivision of the fields. Though the point at which these sub-fields become “genuine” fields is when it becomes feasible for humans to specialize within them. So as a field grows its subdivisions become contain more possibility for specialization, finally overthrowing the old field.
This was seen in the late 19th century in physics, where physicists had specialized in physics, funnily enough, that it was beginning to seem as if it was going apart. Things didn’t really match up anymore. Until the late 19th century a physicist could learn the entire field of physics. Then along came scientists that saw this connected thing and added till the field of physics till it burst into fields, the best known of these being quantum-mechanics and general-relativity. The borders and overlaps of fields aren’t absolute though, far from it, everybody has their own idea of what is contained within a field and what is excluded from a field. This will lead to a new type of specialization. Specialization in the field of what fields exist. Specialization in this field will either be done by humans of machines. The ones that have specialized in the field of fields and their interconnection will become the rulers of this world, humanity a slave to the machines or humanity a slave to itself. That is how the end will embrace us, a collective tunnel-vision.
