Did anyone else thought this novel to be appalling and found it to be unbearably boring at most of the time? Talk about overrated.

not really shitty, its actually very well written.
but overall its overrated in my opinion.

I swear Fitzgerald goes out of his way to make everything feel so flat and boring.

Who is Gassbe?

I personally think that The Great Gatsby movie was way better than the book. It featured better character development, and it wrapped up the plot in a nicer way.

Getting back into reading.

First book was The Catcher in the Rye (didn't mind it)
Now I'm onto The Great Gatsby (for no other reason other than the fact that I hear it's a "classic")

Is it normal to find it quite challenging to enjoy reading this book? I can appreciate the detail and the writing, but I find it a hard read.
Not sure what I'm asking, just wondering if this is common.

So apparenatly they are making a gatesby movie with DiCaprio. Anyone know if it will be an abomination like i assume it would be?

So I just finished The Great Gatsby and noticed something interesting.
Note: There are spoilers here.
Near the end of the book, he describes Gatsby and Wilson's death as a holocaust. About ten pages later Nick visits Gatsby's Jewish business partner at his company which is named ‘The Swastika Holding Company’. The book was published before WWII. Thoughts?

Also the moral of the story is bros before hoes.

This too. I was one of the few that actually enjoyed reading this in school.

I'm in High School, and it seems like just beginning this past week, every student has their face buried in this fucker.

Why do you hate The Great Gatsby?

>objectively good writing
>interesting, likeable main characters
>story moves at a fast pace
>short so it doesn't take up too much of your time
>themes that take a little thinking to understand
>social commentary

So lit, how are the lives portrayed in this book opposite of lives lived by most Americans during the 1920's?
Why do you guys think Fitzgerald wrote this book when it only reflected a small percentage of the population? It helps if you can reference your argument.

Thoughts on this? I loved it. What else should I read?

/lit/, why do you throw a temper tantrum when people say they loved Gatsby or its one of their favorite books? Do you really hate Gatsby that much or is Gatsby too mainstream for you?
