I prayed that my ex girlfriend would be converted, so the rift between us would be healed. However my prayers weren't answered. Eventually, after a particularly painful conversation where she sobbed and told me how much pain she was in, and how much she hated God for taking me away, I prayed for her to be at peace. Our relationship ended. Now, ~4 years later, she is at peace with herself and has overcome her social anxiety, and I have been with the woman of my dreams for 3 years. At the time I thought my heart would never recover from the pain, now it knows joys it never would have otherwise.

OP, if you are indeed a Catholic, you're over-intellectualising. Plato - Aristotle -Augustine - Aquinas form enough of a coherent philosophy to be accepted mentally, but no amount of intellectualism convinced anyone of God. If you pray sincerely you will receive Grace and Faith, and I mean real Faith, something almost tangible that is a gift from God. If you really seek God you will come to believe in His existence and in His Church, and you would never consider that the Church would not persist, because you'd know that it would. Bad teachers don't make education worthless, and bad Priests don't diminish the Truth. There is a huge influx of traditional priests disgusted by the state of the modern world entering the clergy and soon enough the tide will turn. Not that it will matter much, since I strongly suspect we're in the Endgame now.
