Original poster here. On Linux I can just add an ftp server to my filesystem so it becomes just another folder on my computer.

I can then move files in and out of the device easily.

On my kindle I had so send an email with a pdf attached to amazon, restricted to 5mb and if that was copyrighted amazon would deny sending it.
