So /lit/ I started reading Le Morte D'Arthur. I went into this expecting some sword-in-the-stone/once-and-future-king type pleasantries. The first chapter begins with Arthur being conceived by rape and ends with him killing a bunch of babies. Then it just gets bloodier from there.

Lets talk about other books that defied your expectations.

I had never herad of the term "chapter book" before this thread, strange. Anyway, it's far from my first full-length book (I think I read Narnia and LOTR before PT), but I love love loved it. So, um, hooray for Phantom Tollbooth!
