Who was in the wrong here?

So for all those years I thought The Count of Monte Cristo was just a memebook because burgerteens had to read it in school, but I bought it last week on a whim and it is fucking amazing.
But I was told that the version I got was abridged for whatever reason so I already ordered an unabridged version, but I don't like switching to a different version and translation after I already started.
I am not too far in, just when he helped his old friend and said that he was now gonna go full edge, but do you think that the unabridged version has essential scenes I need on a first read, or could I finish the cut version first and then read the uncut afterwards?

Is this the most based, satisfying book ever written?

Just finished it and the only thing I can compare it to is eating a seven course French feast prepared by Jacques Pépin followed by a glass of fine brandy before cumming inside of a woman full force and for the sole purpose of reproduction.

I'm currently studying abroad in France and really wanted to get some really good lit in the original. Do you guys got any suggestions?

Not the best book I've read, but it is my favorite.
