>all this bullshit ITT
Pynchon is shit and not even close to being the best Burger writer. I'm European myself but to downright aver that there are no great American writers is disingenuous. McCarthy, O'Connor, DeLillo, Roth and DFW, maybe Capote too.

Amerika is peak Kafka.
Also, Great Wall of China is the best of his stories.

Haven't they published a new edition/translation of Berlin Alexanderplatz? I can definitely recommend that one. I've only read it in German so no idea how it translates, but it's one of the better urban novels of the early 20th century. I'd even go as far as calling it the German Ulysses. Really wish they'd translate his other stuff, like Amazonas or Murder of a Buttercup. Y'all niggas need Döblin

Is the rest of Steinbeck's opus better than Of Mice and Men? Because that one is a slog to get through. I'm not a Burger so I never read Steinbeck in school, but I had no issues with other US lit like McCarthy, DFW, or the Pynchmeister.

Blood Meridian
Berlin Alexanderplatz
Der Prozeß/Amerika (one of either, maybe even Das Schloss)
