How long did it take youto get good at writing poetry?

I've been going at it for a month, writing and continually editing a bunch of poems, but only a couple are of any redeemable quality.

I attempted checking this out earlier this year. Having read Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 69 and diggin that work I decided to give a eye. I only made it through Beyond the Zero. I was going innn though.

I'd like to read Finnegan's Wake as my next Literary Goliath of a Beast. (L.G.M.)

languid was the Slothrop,
golly was hen,
marry praise to literature, the most all holly of all!

Hey /lit/, I recently finished Portrait of the Artist as a Young man, and I loved it. It was the first work of modernist lit that I've read and I'm looking for more. What are some books similar to Portrait in terms of style and difficulty? I'm not sure I'm ready for something as daunting as Ulysses right now, which is why I want to enjoy more modernist lit as I simultaneously prepare to work further through Joyce.
