I found Bukowski at a particularly critical juncture when I had to choose between needless suffering and the relative peace of good faith. For that reason (and because his style is light-hearted and simple), I find his stuff soothing. He's not the pinnacle of literary achievement, but his prose is fun and forward and oddly poignant where he needs to speak his truth. If you think he was striving to be Tolstoy, you're probably setting yourself up for disappointment before you even read him.

At the same time, if you think he's the hottest shit ever or you enjoy his poetry, you're most likely a pleb.
