How about something from the 21st Century?

Anybody else feel like this is similar to Book of the New Sun? Arseny reminds me more than a little of Severian. And both books deal with time to a certain degree, and with their heroes having unusual healing powers.

I did really, truly love this book. I almost cried at the end when Laurus successfully delivers the baby. In his last hours of life he makes up for his failure with Ustina. It was beautiful.

Is Holy Fool Foma right? Do you have to deny your own identity to truly serve God? Is wanting a name for oneself a vanity?

Continuing to read this incredible book. Just finished the first major section.

Fuck, the part with the pregnancy was intense. I wasn't ready for that shit.

What about Vodolazkin?

I know it's Ortho lit, but I have Laurus next on my reading list. I've heard my fellow Catholics speak very highly of it too, so I'm excited.
