Does anyone else hate it when people (critics etc) say that a good book has to be fast paced and has to to "carry you along"?

I read some allegedly "fast paced" books, mostly written in first person, and they reek of phonyism and a desperation to be liked or thought clever. It makes me sick. Anybody else know this feel?
