litterally writen by one of Napoleons close friends and gives first hand accounts of everything. talks about the zeitgesit and actual thought process in the moment as well and the author trully tries to stay as unbias as possible. no matter what secondary sources you read, i completely recommend this to go along with.

i personally recommend Memiors of Napoleon by Louis Antoine. the author was a freibd of napoleon since childhood so its as close to a primary source as you can get besides that from the mouth of napoleon himself, and the author really tries to be achadenic and scholarly. in a way, a close compatriote might be better than the person themself due to perspective. also, its great to see the in context interpretations of napoleon. would also recommend a more modern reader to go along with, but the in person accounts and in context thoughts and interpretations are invaluable.
