What is the best version of this book? Is this the best entry into plato's philosophy?

>We went therefore home with Polemarchus, and found there his brothers Lysias and Euthydemus, and, along with them,Thrasymachus of Chalcedon, and Charmantides the Paeanian, and Cleitophon the son of Aristonymus.Polemarchus's father,Cephalus, was also in the house.

So, /lit/, I just got finished reading Plato's republic and I have to ask, was Thrasymachus right after all? Plato essentially spends the entirety of his book trying to prove him wrong and I still feel like that isn't enough.

Finished this last night /lit/. Where do I go from here?

I'm interested in bettering myself as a human and discovering deeper meaning in life.

I've also discovered that I have an interest in discussing different political structures.

I'm looking for books that critique democracy.

Whether it's a left or right wing critique doesn't matter.

Any recommendations?

I'm on a whistlestop tour of philosophy to get a taste of what resonates with me. Just finishing up The Republic and wondering where to go from here. So far I've enjoyed the definition of a philosopher and the ideas about justice but generally I don't agree with many of Plato's political ideas (despite being a britfag socialist/welfare state fan).

Where should I go next?

I was thinking Marcus Aurelius - Meditations because I need some stoic discipline if I'm going to survive September when I start a tough new position. What does /lit/ think?
