Science in academia has largely become what Richard Feynman calls cargo-cult science. It's all this public funding, publish or perish culture, reproducibility crisis, p-hacking, and giberish paper passing peer review bullshit. Real science is done becuase every except engineers have forgotten how to do it. We're basically Rome right now.
The irreligious public have largely turned away from God and have taken to worshipping science because of our early successes, they're faith is largely misplaced though. We are aimless, without truth to guide us like we once had.
