I've been looking for the same thing OP - but I think this approach will serve you better. I really like Kesey btw, even though I haven't read much of the scholarship on him.

Instead of looking for a Kesey biography look at all the online resources on his life and read his contemporaries. Start with Tom Wolfe and move your way out. The fun thing about Kesey is that he really is the Brian Eno of his specific generation: he's connected to everybody. Notice the names and connect the dots. I'd recommend Todd Gitlin's "The Sixties" if you want a good overview of this period that goes beyond Wikipedia-tier content. The caricature of the 60s doesn't sufficiently capture the era's pre-watergate paranoia, stupidity, drug culture, and hedonism: all of which are Kesey's bread and butter. I'm not a big believer in LSD or hippy consciousness, but, they're essential to understanding Kesey.

I'm not sure how much you know about Gonzo journalism but it privileges subjective experience over the objective. Kesey said "But it's the truth even if it didn't happen." Therefore, I'd caution reading a lot of this stuff "objectively." The same goes for reading Kesey's biography imo. You're in for a treat if you haven't read much yet - Kesey is fantastic. Seriously, the Christian imagery in One Flew was incredible. What an artist

can't believe nobody mentioned The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test yet

still the most accurate rendition of tripping in prose, IMO
