There was a post 2 weeks ago with regards to creating some kind of reading/discussion group for Pynchon.

Eventually we settled on creating a Discord server.
We are currently reading V, 2 chapters per week (this is the first week) so if anyone is interested in joining this is an opportunity to join right at the start of our group reading of V.
There are no set times for organized discussions or anything the sort, just read 2 chapters per week and if discuss (if you want to). Reading Pynchon is a lot of fun but I have usually felt like I want to discuss the books with someone currently reading them and this gives us an opportunity to do this.

I bought V. and I'm currently on the first chapter. I really like it but I've heard Pynchon is what they call Postmodern. When I look for definitions of Postmodernism, I see it started with Classicism and developed into Modernism, which became Postmodernism. Apparently Classicism was about traditional beauty, Modernism about functionality or defying tradition in general, and then Postmodernism about defying new tradition and then trying to meditate on the questions raised by the defiance and the nature of tradition, which led to questions on the nature of contemplating the nature of things. Now, with all this said, how does V. tie into all of it? What makes V. a Postmodern novel? Is it because of the prose, storyline or characters? All I know about V. right now is that Benny is traveling round the East Coast and has no direction in life since his discharge from the Navy + They're gonna go meet these people called The Whole Sick Crew because Rachel, Benny's car-obsessive friend or partner is with the Crew. What makes this Postmodernist?

Why is like half of this novel's prose retarded overwrought similes or analogies that make no sense?

I'm reading pic related because I really enjoyed Crying of Lot 49 but so far it's not all that interesting. I'm about a 100 pages in and I'm not really all that invested in the plot or characters, my favourite part so far was when we got flashback to early 20th century Cairo. Should I keep reading or did Pynchon filter me?

Is there anyone that writes about similar topics to Pynchon but is easier to read? I tried to read Gravity's Rainbow and V and both were kinda difficult to follow but I enjoyed what little I got.

Can someone explain why? It has neither the universal scope of Gravity's Rainbow nor great comedy nor beautiful prose. I just finished reading, and I got to say, it's the worst 'classic' book I've read.

100 pages into this book, and I'm getting bored. I loved Crying of Lot 49, but this book switches between too many characters and isn't particularly funny. When does it get good?

I finally read Pynchon (particularly, pic related) after looking through the mythical posts that are attributed to him posted on /lit/ a decade ago and liking their madcap style.
I have already read, and enjoyed my time reading, a chapter. My question is how I can best appreciate Pynchon to not get filtered when he starts getting serious, and he stops writing scenes where a man takes a healthy bite out of a woman's ass cheek. In other words, when does the schizo prattle start? Or does it ever get as bad as, say, the passages in The Recognitions where Wyatt won't shut the fuck up about every Abrahamic religion and its derivatives? Would the Pynchon wikia suffice? What is your experience reading him?

I’m a hundred pages in so far. Does this ever become anything other than introducing new characters and giving an in-depth backstory for them?

Just finished this and it’s a damn good book. My first Pynchon book. What do you guys think of it? Still mulling over the meaning/themes, but from what I understand people have read this book more than once and still don’t know what it’s about.
