What do I need to read before Nietzsche?

I've always thought about buying some books. Problem is that I was never an avid reader and that I will look like a pseud to my family and relatives if they ever saw me reading one. Most of them has Phd while I'm a college dropout and only work at a fast food chain which makes it much more terrible. I've grown old and I really want to read. Any advice is appreciated.
