Why do people spoil books? Why is it that when I read the introduction/preface of a book (especially ones written by women) they go out of their way to spoil not only the book itself, but also often other books by the same author?
I understand that if it's 50, 100, 200+ years old I can't expect people to care if they're spoiling it, but why put spoilers literally in the book itself without warning?

Funnily enough I also only open up /lit/ when I'm feeling existential dread or equivalent, I wonder why.
