Last 2 Hispanic books I read:
>De la elegancia mientras se duerme - Vizconde de Lascano Tegui
Very nice little book I had no idea existed. Very much in line with my recent readings of Huysmans and other symbolists and decadents. Lots of whoring and a cult of syphilis so to speak. Really polished style and a beautiful aesthetic (in decadence, clearly), even the title is great, but the writing had such weird turns of phrase and questionable grammar it made it hard to read (maybe it was just me). All in all, it was really effective in evoking a mental picture of the story behind the "diary" and its fictional writer. I'll probably re-read it in English and chances are it will be better. Lascano Tegui's biography is quite crazy.

>Nucleo del disturbio - Samanta Schweblin
It was okay. Nothing truly great but felt I had to read something to know what women my age are reading. Not a fan of the narrative perspective being told in present and future tense. Screams "Look at my craft!".
The first half of the short stories are heavy with feminist themes, predictably. The latter ones are more existential or whatever. Found a really great expression I'd steal without a second glance: "Vian mira la cabina telefónica /como quien estudia el grosor de una responsabilidad/". Very descriptive and clever. Too bad she uses it a second time in the same book.
