Anyone else become strongly Christian / Catholic after reading lots of historical fiction and poetry?

What are some books/authors which discuss the characteristics necessary in order to build healthy interpersonal relationships with others and also help a person develop tolerance for things they’re normally intolerant of?

Sure great misery, suffering and pain can lead to illumination but is that the wisest path of getting stung by bees your whole life?
Overwhelming the senses until all the pleasure subsides is a valid strategy as well , one perhaps more reliable.
If you are satisfied in all aspects and completely sure that material reality cannot bring transcendental happiness then only genuine desire for god/liberation is left.
The poor are often tempted to compromise their spirituality for materialism simply because such approach is unhealthy as you're not following up the steps but trying to skip them.
The soul wants to experience joys of material reality as well as god, there is purpose in both inner and outer.Satisfying desires can be part of active spiritual path if one is conscious and non attached.
