Have you been watching the news lately? The median income of blacks, although it's increased since the 1960s, has remained the lowest of any ethnic group in America. Unemployment is still highest among blacks, and police brutality/the prison-industrial system is still a major issue. Why is it worth my time to read Critical Theory if I'm never going to know what it's like to be black, poor, a woman, gay, Jewish, Muslim, from a formerly colonized country, etc. and all these paradigms seem alien to me? Also, isn't it cultural appropriation for me to research this stuff since I'm gaining knowledge of these groups and their paradigms without having to face the oppressions they did?
