Honest answer:

1. Poverty

I had a career, but I was miserable -- so I gave it up to write. Now I'm poor and happy. Sadly, I haven't found a woman who enjoys living as frugally as I do. Many say they can, but most grow bitter and sad when they hear about their girlfriends' new clothes / purses / apartments / houses / vacations, etc. This is one reason I've started to shy from relationships.

2. Lack of Recognition

I've had a few stories published in well-known journals. I recently finished the twenty-seventh revision of my first novel manuscript, people seem to like it, and I'm getting ready to send it off to agents -- but I'm still not proven. I'm not a poor novelist; I'm a poor guy who wants to be a novelist. This is okay if you're 21. I'm 31.

3. Introversion

In order to be fun-loving around others, I need to spend the majority of my time alone. I don't mean sitting with my girlfriend in the same room while we're both quietly doing our own thing. I mean being alone from everyone, including her, for hours. I'm sure there are women who understand and appreciate this quirk. Sadly, I haven't found them yet.

4. Average Sexual Drive / Ability

I'm of average build and height. I have a small to middling cock. I've never 'wowed' a girl in bed. My tastes are vanilla. No girl has ever dated me for the sex.

5. Pornography

It's free. It's everywhere. It's quick. It eliminates the urge. I can get back to work.

6. No Desire to Procreate

Several reasons why. I think most on /lit/ understand.

7. No Desire to Marry

I get an intensely strong urge to have 3D sex every eight months or so. I keep fit and eat well, and I'm not too socially inept at parties -- so finding a hookup with isn't impossible. While I can see the benefits to marriage, I'm very wary of its binds. As long as a friendly, fun, semi-annual affair can recharge my spirit, I'd rather leave it at that.

And that's why I don't have a gf.
