Anyone read Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky-brothers? Any thoughts about these kind of Soviet-era scifi books?

I haven't read any others myself. Found this one while reading about the inspiration for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games

For those who don't know anything about them, this story is the inspiration for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

Sci-fi thread? I wanted a recommendation of what you think to be essential. Here is what I've read:

The Sprawl Trilogy (plus Burning Chrome);
Snowcrash;
Mockingbird;
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Definitely Maybe;
Roadside Picnic;
A load of Lovecraft's short stories, plus some of his longer ones.

Currently reading ''Pattern Recognition''.

I don't feel like reading space operas.

Neither 1984.

Does /lit/ love Roadside Picnic?

Maybe this can be the key to bringing the boards together.

I wasn't expecting this to be so good where do i find similar things? I knew about stalker but tbh i didn't think the novel it was based off of would be anything that good.

I've been wanting to read more sci-fi and was wondering if /lit/ could help me assemble a starter kit.
So far I just have a Roadside Picnic but I've been meaning to pick something up by Lem as well, preferably a novella or some short stories. Also maybe some Ray Bradbury?
