Should Clarke, Heinlein, Dick, Miller Jr., Sagan, Delany, Card, etc. be considered part of literary canon? Should Tolkien, Lewis, Le Guin, Moorcock, Zelazny, Stephen R. Donaldson, Tad Williams, Guy Gavriel Kay, etc.?

Why is it called a "litRPG" as if it's a roleplaying game? When I first heard of the genre, I thought it was like a choose-your-own adventure with encounters that can be resolved by simple stat checks and combat mechanics, but apparently it's just a genre of fantasy where RPG mechanics like leveling up are tangible in-setting?

I don't get it. Why would you buy a book and not read it? I only buy books specifically when I intend to read them.

Why is it so difficult to find people that enjoy both genre works and literary works? Why are most genre fans so reluctant to read the classics and why are most literary readers so allergic to stories that are "just fun?"

I'll get straight to the point. I'm an avid reader, have read books that are considered impossible, unreadable and straight up monsters, such as Moby Dick, Lovecraft, Ovid, Homer, Shakespeare, Naked Lunch, Blood Meridian to name a few. Now, I am by no means a clever nor intelligent man, I'm a slow reader and it takes effort for things to stick, but these books and authors were normal reads to me, at no point did I struggle or reach a bump in the books. Not tooting my own horn, not the point of this post.

So, how come some people struggle with different books, and for others it's a breeze? Is there a level a reader has to attain? How does one go about measuring progress and sizing up a book on a scale of 1-10? I hope this makes sense, I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this.

For context, the only works that I have found difficult in my reading career have been: Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Dante's Paradiso, and The Fifth Head of Cerberus.
