Let's have a genre-savvy thread. Just finished warbreaker yesterday and found this one(The good guy just got thrown out of a window):

"You think he'll live?" Tonkh Fah asked.
"He just fell out of the third-story window, plummeting toward certain doom." Denth said. "Of course he'll live! Send the squad toward the front doors to slow him!"

since it seems everything is considered entry level on here, then what does /lit/ consider to be the most un-entry level tier??

The death of the appreciation of literature at the hands of social media, among the younger generations especially. Discuss.

I'm a bad writer. I'm a proficient essayist, a fantastic editor for other people and occasionally even come off as educated in conversation, but self-expression for its own (narratives particularly) sake is hell for me. I notice myself repeating all of these obnoxious rhetorical flourishes or telling stories the way an excited child would and I know that, in any other context, I wouldn't tolerate such tripe. But I don't know how else to write. Reading rarely helps, or if it does, its influence is almost imperceptible and easily reverted. Practice at such an elementary level just seems to reinforce my bad habits, and is unpleasant to boot because I annoy myself so much. Is there anything /lit/ would recommend I do to get better?
