What the fuck does that mean? How can there be any truth in a fucking blazing star? Am I getting filtered by shitty poetry? Is it nuclear fusion? What's so fucking true about that? I don't fucking get it. It makes no sense. I get "truth is in my heart" from a metaphorical standpoint, but I can't wrap my fucking head around "truth" being thrown at random objects with no possible sticking meaning to it.

We met on lit back in 2016, we were pretty close for a few years and even met up to see Takashi Murakami at the Vancouver Art Gallery. I really cared a lot about him and he was going through some pretty heavy stuff in his life and dropped off the face of the map for over 6 months now. If your with me on this, that is, the term ‘metaphysics’ is kind of a misleading word for the subject matter it deals with, what would be a more authentic/resembling name for it? Phenomenology and ontology are good ones. I don’t like the term existentialism tho

Sorry OP I was finishing an essay. You should check out those earlier recs I gave as well as Augustine.

Some good early writers on early Christianity include: Tertullian, Justin Martyr, Clement of Alexandria, Oriegen, Eusebius, Lactantius and Sozomon. The last three are clerical histories and are very politically motivated, more interesting if you want to understand the influence of Roman politics on Christian theology and worldview, especially how they chronoolgoised history. Philo of Alexandria is a Jewish source but really good into to a sort of Christian thought before Christianity as he is writing at approximately the same time as Jesus is writing. The nature of the Jewish God that Philo describes is used a lot by later Christian writers.

Also answering >>11941385 all three of those theologians are worth reading in their own right. Unfortunately I don't know very much about the scholastic tradition though and i'm afraid I can't point you in the right direction for more good medieval christian texts.

A little too much anglo-american lit, but if someone told me they had read all of these books (read as in: knew them well, not just consumed them), I would consider them well-read and would probably be able to have a stimulating conversation with them
