How will history remember Harry Potter?

Dear /lit/, this thread is not about Harry Potter, nor am I an avid pothead (is that what you call them) but I won't deny the amount of charm it had as a story. It was a significant part of my childhood but now, it seems much harder to find a fantasy (or sci-fi) experience much like it. I've read Tolkien, Dick, Bradbury, and a bunch but they never quite hit the spot. Looking at other fantasy novels, I see nothing but a continuous rehash of D&D, sword and sorcery, or anything medieval-inspired. Looking at other sci-fi novels, I see the same old space operas, or cyberpunk crime thrillers, or dystopic future due to nuclear war.

My question is, are there things that completely reinvent the genre, or add any special kind of contemporary spirit about it? (I've tried Gaiman and Murakami, but they don't exactly give me the experience of adventure I'm looking for)

I've been told to read Hitchhiker's Guide, but I'm still dubious about beginning it. I'm afraid the jokes might ruin any serious intent to portray a serious fantastic experience. I don't know. I'm flailing in the dark here as to my inexperience in fantasy/sci-fi lit. Help an anon out?

hey /lit/, /tv/ here.

why don't you recommend Harry Potter as a good fantasy series? do you think it's only for children? what's the reason?

Also, I'm thinking in buying these

>A Clockwork Orange
>The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
>Dune
>Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
>The Hunger Games
>A Game of Thrones

is it a good start?

Thanks.

/fit/ here. Decided to stroll on over. Read some thread about philosophy, seemed fucking gay. Anywho, just going to share my 2 cents, the Harry Potter series was legitimately fucking awesome.

This board needs some more harry potter.
