I saw people talking about it on 4chan once and some guy was going off about how you need a lot of "know how" that can only be gained by fucking it up and (ideally) having help and guidance. You can't just bring a book and a laptop to some plot of land with a few bags of seeds, shit will constantly go wrong and your crops will die for retarded reasons. He seemed to be saying that a lot of keeping a farm successful is in knowing all the pitfalls, being willing to learn as you go over the years, and always having backup plans, redundancy, and diversified crops and food types in case something goes tits up.
