I saw this in Moscow some time ago and its glimmer caught the side of my eye. You have to imagine yourself the size of this thing, not unusually big but still enough surprise you, and to make you feel like the clouds are coming out of the frame. For me it even had this slight synaesthetic effect as it made me imagine pretty directly a sort of great humming/chanting noise like something out of Baraka.

I don't think the point here is to compare man and nature. Our society is a sort of POV with which we observe the truly grandiose, balanced, ever-shifting nature of the universe. Levitan called it his greatest work, and this was in fact probably the most surprising and interesting work at the Tretyakov Gallery.
