TK's two books are groundbreaking and flawlessly written. speaking of the manifesto, the manifesto is the most concise, lucid, and comprehensive summary of the industrial world situation. nothing mumford or postman or ellul or any of those supposed tech-philosophers have ever written comes close to the level of conciseness and comprehension of the manifesto. name me a manifesto, like the communist manifesto is for marxism, that so perfectly and logically encompasses the whole of the situation yet does it in a brief and very easy to read manner (like a manifesto should). news flash: you can't.

Just as oil was once useless and therefore not exploited, once the technical means were required and the system reached a level of technical complexity that it needed it, oil all over the world was ruthlessly exploited. The same holds true for everything, from minerals, to rare-earths, to plants and even air and water.

Regarding choice: nothing you say is true in the slightest. Native life ways are being squeezed out economically and practically in every way. The world is an integrated system.
